W. A. Ismay, the Potters’ Champion
ZOOM LECTURE
Sun 20 Feb 2022
Zoom lecture by Helen Walsh, at 6.00 pm (London). W.A. Ismay MBE (1910–2001) assembled one of the UK’s largest collections of post-war British studio pottery and lived surrounded by his family of pots in a small terraced house in Yorkshire. Work by significant figures such as Lucie Rie and Hans Coper sat alongside pieces by lesser-known makers, in a collection of 3,500 items by more than 500 makers. The lecture explores how Ismay lived with and used his collection, supporting artists, collectors and curators and promoting British studio pottery.
