VISIT TO THREE SIGNIFICANT LONDON CHURCHES
UK EVENT
Thu 24 Feb 2022
Robert Drake will lead an afternoon tour to three churches, all grade 2* with much decorative arts interest: St Mary, Cadogan Street, with fittings by J.F. Bentley (who is the subject of a recent book published by the Victorian Society) and with chapels by Pugin, father and son; the monumental St Colomba’s Church of Scotland in Pont Street by Sir Edward Maufe in his Scandinavian-influenced style, with stained glass by Moira Forsyth completed in 1956; and finally by bus or tube to see Notre Dame de France, Leicester Place, completed in 1955 with a mosaic by Boris Anrep, a chapel with murals (1959) by Jean Cocteau (his only UK work) and work by other French artists.
