VISIT TO THE PRIVATE ROOMS OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY, LONDON

This visit has been arranged to see the work of Collinson & Lock at the Royal Society and will be accompanied by Professor Clive Edwards. The firm undertook decoration of 6 Carlton House Terrace from 1889 for two different clients. The surviving spaces include magnificent painted and decorated ceilings, marquetry wall panelling and marquetry-work doors. These often reflected the firm's interest in Renaissance design motifs. The tour will be led by a member of the library team, who will tell the story of the society’s history and give an overview of current activities while exploring its premises, which include the former German Embassy. There will be the opportunity to see interiors of different periods as well as displays in the library’s reading room.
