Visit to the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne

This visit to the Laing Art Gallery takes the form of a tour of the gallery’s history and highlights, including an Arts and Crafts style stained glass stair window commissioned for the opening of the gallery in 1904, representing the union of painting, sculpture, and the decorative arts. As well as sculptures by internationally known artists Albert Toft and Waldo Storey, and paintings by Burne-Jones, Holman Hunt and John Martin, this visit will focus on decorative art particular to the North East, both on display and in store, such as Sowerby glass, Maling pottery and silver by the Newcastle Handicrafts Company.
