Two Private Houses, Gimson and the Dryad Collection, Leicester
UK EVENT
Tue 17 Sep 2019
Along with its superb group of works by Ernest Gimson and other Arts & Crafts designers, Leicester Museum has a collection of folk art from around the world gathered by Harry Peach, founder of the Dryad Works and pioneer of the Design & Industries Association. In the museum we will see the Arts & Crafts display and items from the Dryad collection currently in store. We will be joined by Professor Pat Kirkham, Peach’s biographer and an authority on design history. After lunch we will visit Inglewood, the first house built by Gimson (1892-93), followed by a 3/4 mile walk to a stylish house of 1953-54.
