Arts & Crafts in Ireland: Dublin to Cork
FOREIGN STUDY TOUR
Mon 23 Sep 2019
Monday to Saturday 23–28 September 2019
Highlights around Dublin will include a visit to Lambay Island to see the house designed by Edwin Lutyens for the Baring family (weather-dependent), Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park (donated to the nation by the Guinness family), as well as two private country houses in Meath. The city of Cork is home to William Burges’s first masterpiece, St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, as well as the important Honan Chapel of 1916 with windows by Harry Clarke. We will also see their work in Gorey and Bunclody en route, as we include a visit to Monksgrange in Wexford, where important Irish Arts & Crafts furniture was made in 1927–31. In the surroundings of Cork we hope to see two other important period houses.
