ARCHIBALD KNOX AND THE ISLE OF MAN
UK EVENT
Sun 31 Aug 2025
A four-day tour is planned to visit the once-in-a-lifetime exhibition Knox: Order and Beauty at the Manx Museum in Douglas, Isle of Man. The Society awarded a grant to help support the display of over 100 Knox pieces within an innovative ‘wall of windows’.
The visit will also highlight other locations associated with Knox (1864–1933), such as Braddan Cemetery. We will experience the unique history, culture, spirituality and scenery of the island, which inspired and motivated Knox to become one of the greatest designers of the late 19th and early 20th century.
There will be lectures and other exclusive events at the Manx Museum, including a private tour and buffet supper on the first evening. Architect M.H. Baillie Scott (1865–1945) lived and worked on the island for 12 years and was a friend of Knox: we will see some of his houses along with other local treasures.
Expressions of interest should be sent to Martin Webster.
