The Society’s 40th Anniversary Appeal

Please help support the decorative arts with a Donation to the DAS to be allocated directly to the Society’s 40th Anniversary Fund

Bursaries assist decorative arts scholars to further their knowledge and build up their professional contacts by travelling on our specialist trips or on DAS-related research. In the words of Dr Melanie Vandenbrouck, curator at Royal Museums, Greenwich, the 2013 DAS Bursary winner for the New York study tour, “using the fund as study trips bursaries enables a dialogue between the recipient, the other members of the group, and the hosts, which is fruitful to all.”

Grants: Contributions to museum purchases from our own resources helped by private donations have supported museums ranging in size from the V&A to the Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough and the Museum of Stained Glass at Ely. As Museums now have minimal funds for purchase grants, it helps them to raise funds if a Society like the DAS registers its support by providing the “seed corn” towards a purchase. We want to use the Fund to increase the frequency of such valuable if limited aid. Ability for rapid consideration of an application would greatly help smaller museums when purchases become available at short notice. It would also fund our annual Collections Access Grant of £2000 to improve access to existing collections, begun in 2014 with an award to Blackwell, The Arts and Crafts House.

Awards are recommended by a committee of members which includes DAS Governors, academics, and curators and reported in the newsletter and at the AGM.
